Swine Flu?

So...after waiting on the doctor for over an hour, we are watching Neely for H1N1. A little girl in her class has a confirmed case. The doctor also did a 24 hour strep culture. She went ahead and started her on an antibiotic because her throat looked red. All day long I have been asking Neely how she feels and checking her temp. It has stayed between 100.1-100.9. Doctor Morgan said that it will go up to 103+ if it is the swine flu. Enough of that. I stayed home from work, so I got to hang out with my best girl all day. She cracks me up sometimes. On the way to the doctor she told me what she wanted to be when she grows up. It changed about every 5 minutes. The list is as follows:

1. A Ballet Teacher. (Okay, but she has never been to a ballet class in her entire life. We better get her enrolled).

2. A sign holder. ??? (It took me a while to get this one. She wants to hold and twist the STOP/SLOW sign when they are working on the road.)

3. A sucker hander-outer. (The person who gives out suckers at the doctor's office, duh!!).

4. A teacher. ("Just like Ms. Mitchell...'cause she gets to do ANYTHING she wants at school".)

5. A Daddy. ("Because it is too much work to be a Mommy".) (She also mentioned that she will let Lex (her boyfriend) have the babies, because it might hurt her tummy).

I was totally cracking up by the time we got to the doctor's office.

I hate it when Neely is sick, but it sure was fun spending time with her and loving on her today!!

Long time no post!

Okay, it has been 6 MONTHS since I posted last! Yikes! I guess I fell off of the wagon. This week was a very hard, exciting, stressful, and tiring week for the Flanagan Family. My BABY started Pre-K this week. I just can't believe it. SHE IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO BE IN PRE-K!! Right? We found out who her teacher was last week. I was excited to learn that she was in Ms. Mitchell's class. She is a super sweet girl that I have been friends with almost all of my life I started to get butterflies about it Sunday night, but I was able to hold myself together. Neely was SO excited to be going to school. When we got to the school I asked her if she wanted me to drop her off or walk her in. Thank goodness she wanted me to walk her in!!!! She almost RAN to her class and would not be still long enough for me to get a decent picture of her by the front door. When we walked in there was a poor little guy SOBBING on the floor. I thought that Neely would surely break down when she saw him having a meltdown. Not my child!! She walked right up to the little boy and put her arm around him and said, "Don't cry. Your Mommy will be back soon. I will be your best friend today".... And with that, I knew that my child was going to be fine... I was the only one who was having any sad feelings. She gave me a hug, and that was it. She was okay. She was ready to play. She was just fine without me. I was hanging around for me...not her. It was bittersweet, I must say. I was so proud(and thankful) that she did not cry. I know that it would have been a lot harder on me if she would've been upset. However, a very small part of me would have liked for her to NOT want to leave me. I know that is selfish, but I just got the feeling that she is growing up TOO FAST. I peeked back in the door one last time...she was having a ball. Time to go now...LEAVE SHAYE. My baby is in Pre-K. My baby is almost 5. She is stubborn and independent and funny and smart AND I could not be more proud of the little monster!

(The 1st picture is of Neely and some of her classmates. The 2nd one is of Neely and Ms. Mitchell comforting the poor little boy who was so upset)

The 10th Anniversary....(of my 21st birthday).

That is what I am choosing to call turning 31. Somehow it makes me feel a little better. I'm not sure why. Really, I just feel kind of old...and like there is something missing. I haven't figured that one out yet. Maybe it's time for a little soul searching. I HAVE discovered that I am a very slack "blogger". I am too critical about what others may find interesting... Kind of defeats the purpose, huh?
Anyway... As I reflect back on my 21st Birthday, I can't help but smile. I swear that was the best Birthday EVER. It didn't matter that I felt like I had been hit by a truck for three days after. I didn't care that I had a gash on my head from falling off the bar at Washington Street. I had the best party, with the best friends, in the best town, in the best bar(s) EVER!! I partied like a ROCKSTAR!! I danced my butt off! Is it sad that I miss that?? It really is, isn't it? *sigh*

Weight loss total as of today = 7 lbs

1 week under my belt

So....I started back to Weight Watchers last Monday. It is a new program this year. It is mostly the same as before, but with a new focus on foods that make you feel full for the longest period of time. I am determined that I am not going to spend another bathing suit season in my "comfort" bathing suit!! If any of you have any good recipes, please send them my way. I have been using the Hungry Girl cookbook, but I would love to have some tried and true recipes. I spent most of the week feeling a little hungry. I guess that is to be expected after pigging out over the Holidays! I have a new breakfast food that I love. They are Fiber One Toaster Pastries. They are really yummy. I am always looking for a good "breakfast on the run". Anyway, weigh in is tomorrow. I'll be interested to see how I do. I'll keep you updated on my progress!!

The above picture is of Neely at a birthday party that we went to at Gymboree. It was a little sad for me, because she used to go there when she was little(r). I still can't believe how fast she is growing up!

New Year's Resolutions

First, I am going to post a year in pictures from 2008. I got the idea from my friend Jenny's blog. Where did 2008 go? They start with December 2008 and go backwards from there...

Well, I said that I was going to make my New Year's Resolutions public in hopes that somehow it would make me stick to them, so here goes...

1. Lose at LEAST 20lbs.

2. Make and STICK TO a budget.

3. Save more, spend less.

4. Make a little more time for me.

These next few things are more like goals than resolutions.

1. Become closer to GOD

2. RUN the Peachtree at least 3/4 of it. (I usually have to walk about half)

3. Be good enough to clog in a show (Should I decide to)

4. Get my teaching certification

5. TRY not to be so hard on myself.

I could really go on and on. I feel like there are so many things that I want to "fix" about myself and my relationships with others. I think I'm going to quit now, because I am starting to break goal #5!
